Mussell Crane Manufacturing is an aboriginal owned and operated company that was founded in 1991 by owner Fred Mussell. Their primary business is the design, fabrication, freight, installation and service of overhead bridge cranes, gantry cranes, jib cranes, and custom design material handling equipment.

Located in Chilliwack, BC with production facilities totaling over 50,000 sq. ft., they are close to the U.S border and have options of rail and water transportation nearby. They have developed into a major manufacturer/supplier to commercial, military, and government sectors all over Canada and the United States, with production output of approximately 200 cranes per year.

Since their conception Fred has strived to have a turn-key company. By keeping all aspects in-house, this has enabled them to excel beyond the competition when it comes to deliveries and accountability. In-house engineering and design utilizes computer-aided software such as AutoCAD, Solid Works, and GibbsCAM to ensure efficient, precise, and technical production. Their CWB, CSA, and AWS certified shops have devoted over 30,000 sq. ft. specifically for fabrication, sub-arc and flex core welding, cutting, and painting bays.

Another 8,000 sq. ft. is for CNC machining and gear cutting of Mussell Wheels and other crane components. These components are not only for their own use but are also purchased by other crane companies across North America.

One area they standout above the rest is freight and installation. With their own commercial transport fleet equipped with Hiab truck cranes, they provide freight, professional installation, and load testing & commissioning. This allows them to eliminate the unnecessary fees of a third party company and have full control of a project from beginning to end.

After a project is completed your relationship with Mussell Crane doesn’t have to end there. They offer many services beyond the final commissioning such as after-sales support and customer service on all parts of your equipment. Mussell Crane’s service technicians are fully trained and experienced to deal with all equipment malfunctions and breakdowns. They also offer monthly, bi-annually, and annually inspections to increase safety, prevent costly breakdowns, and meet WorkSafeBC requirements.

Mussell Crane’s on-site and in-house training department not only offers customized training for overhead cranes but also for many other applications including, but not limited to, forklift, scissor lift, and fall protection. After completing a course students are awarded a certificate that is recognized by WorkSafeBC and meets provincial rules and regulations.

Investment Casting

Shellcast is a fully integrated, Canadian owned company, founded by its President, Bodo B. Morgenstern, in 1971.  Located in Montreal, Canada, it is one of the major manufacturers of aluminum precision investment castings by the lost wax process.

We produce high-quality aluminum alloy castings using the shell process on automated production lines employing robotics. Casting sizes range from less than 1 in² (645 mm²) area, to a volume size fitting into a 3.5 ft. cube, with a single axis up to a length of 40 inches.

Our QMS is certified to ISO 9001:2015, AS9100D. We are also certified to Nadcap and work in compliance with other standards such as ASTM, AMS, MIL. Production processes are evaluated under Statistical Process Control (SPC) using Six-Sigma Data. The Company facilities comprise approximately 66,000 ft².  All casting relevant processes are performed in-house.  This includes a non-destructive test lab (NDT) for X-Ray and Penetrant inspection, a destructive test lab, a chemical test lab with arc emission spectrometer, heat treatment facility, CAD systems and CMM equipment.

Rapid Prototyping

Shellcast has pioneered and developed a system to produce rapid prototype castings without hard tooling by utilizing resin models produced from a variety of processes. This prototyping capability allows for casting production in as little as 7 weeks.

EMSPROTO takes on a new dimension, after a dazzling and exciting evolution since the launch of the first web platform EMSPROTO.com on July 1, 2015.

This rapid evolution is now leading us to a total resizing of our production plant. We are moving from our first building of 400m² to a brand new factory of more than 2000m², which we have entirely designed and adapted to our activity. It is a factory that is above all ecological, with reinforced insulation, a free cooling ventilation system to limit electricity consumption and a shade of solar panels of 83KW which greatly reduces our carbon footprint when you use our services. Indeed, we are almost autonomous in electrical energy!

We invest heavily in the production tool with the purchase of 2 new CMS lines, the addition of automation on the current line, the purchase of an automatic wired wiring machine. We are also investing in more advanced automation and control means such as the latest generation Viscom 3D AOI at the oven outlet on the 3 CMS lines. A CMS line will be equipped with new and latest generation Mycronic machines, a MY700 for jetting and a MY300-DX for placement, to ensure faster installation and support for increasingly complex component housings.
