Like many successful business ventures, Kevin Porterfield began by fiddling around in his shop. Kevin developed an early passion in creating, planning, and building various off-road projects and vehicles. Kevin first became aware that the St Clairsville area needed a local fabrication shop when he was about 24 years old. Formally founded in 2016, Porterfield Fabrication Services provides a broad range of machining, welding, and fabricating services.

1932 saw the founding of Valley Sheet Metal Works by Gustave Taffe. As a result of the company's growth and reputation for high-quality work, Gus and his son-in-law were able to acquire the Reilly-Duerr Tank Company in 1950. The company's capabilities in tank design and construction were expanded by this acquisition, and they relocated to their current location in Cincinnati, Ohio, to accommodate growing demand.
