Windel and Sherry Mayfield established Lone Star Rubber Company in 1979. West Texas native Windel began his career in the oilfield on workover rigs. He holds a degree from Texas A&M and has held positions with Gates Molded Products, Oil States Rubber, and Regal International. Custom-designed and -manufactured rubber and plastic parts are produced by Lone Star Rubber. To create a ground-breaking new casing plunger, Windel and associates established PAL Plungers as a distinct company in 1999. In 2008, Windel and Sherry's son Derek Mayfield joined Lone Star. Derek graduated from Texas A&M in 2001.
